Genre: Afro-pop , Jazz , Soul

  1. Friday, January 05 8:30 PM (21+)

Seattle trio Afrocop performs improvised soundscapes of soul, afrobeat, breakbeat, sci-fi and jazz. Chicago native Noel Brass Jr. (keys) formed the band as a means to express his psychedelic gospel leanings. Veteran Seattle players Andy Sells (FCS North, Cascadia ’10, Fascination Nation) & Carlos Tulloss (Screens, Stereo Sons, Undersea Passage) bring the beats and low end to the mix.

“One of Seattle’s best bands… create a rarefied strain of psychedelic, soulful jazz that exists in that cool, sweet zone where the music of Lonnie Liston Smith, Medeski, Martin + Wood, and Spiritualized at their most abstract intersect.”

Marina Christopher Band

Genre: Funk , Jazz , Soul

Marina Christopher is a versatile, up and coming artist in the Seattle music scene. Her skill, cheery nature and work ethic continue to keep Marina busy as a freelance bassist in many musical styles. Marina is also an accomplished vocalist, earning a spot as a finalist in the 2017 Seattle-Kobe Female Jazz Vocalist contest and performing at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley.

Marina was born in Seattle, Washington. She began playing the electric bass at age 11 and began playing the upright bass a year later. She grew up listening to her father play jazz and boogie woogie at the piano. This opened Marina up to wide range of music at a young age.

Marina earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Double Bass Performance from Central Washington University, where she studied with Jon Hamar. After college, she worked in the orchestra of Royal Caribbean cruise ship, entertaining passengers from all over the world with her fabulous bass playing!

Since returning to land, Marina has shared the stage with performers such as Meklit Hadero, Eugenie Jones, and Billy Brandt. She is currently a regular member of the musical groups Scarlet Parke, The Bad News Botanists, Winding Hearts, Jerett Samples and Leah T and The Baked Goods. Marina was a founding member of the Mo Jam Mondays at the Nectar Lounge, and has since been the featured artist several times. Marina's original tune "Self Love" was featured on Mo' Jam Mondays on Band in Seattle.

Singing and song-writing have become Marina's most recent musical endeavor. On March 14, 2015, she released her self-titled EP, which showcases her talents. She sings and writes in a style that seamlessly blends jazz and pop, and her voice is something all her own. Marina released her full length record, "Must Love Cats", on September 2, 2016.  Although Marina happily continues to accompany many other musicians, you can count on seeing her perform more and more as a featured artist. She plays with her trio every second Saturday at the Paragon on Queen Anne, and twice a month at the Cork & Tap in Bellevue. Marina is available for private functions and events. Please contact Marina for more information.

Come spring 2018, Marina will release an album of her own music with her band Marina and the Dreamboats. She writes and arranges for this 9+ plus piece group and they are quickly gaining a following in Seattle. They have opened for The Hot 8 Brass Band and D'Vonne Lewis' Limited Edition. They were invited to headline a private music festival for Nelson Treehouse and Supply (creators of "Treehouse Masters" TV program). This past October, they were featured at the Edmonds Center for the Performing Arts film cabaret.

Missoni Lanza

Genre: Blues , Jazz , R&B , Soul

Missoni Lanza sings of love - lost, unrequited, enchanted and cursed. Her music evokes memories of a bygone era entwined with the present. Heavily influenced by jazz, blues, soul and R&B, Missoni brings a breath of fresh air to her music. Her voice cuts through to the soul. With each performance Missoni brings a raw vulnerability that has captivated her audiences. Currently, Missoni is writing for her first full-length record.

All her life, Missoni has been deeply immersed in music. She started the piano, writing poetry and lyrics in grade school.  At fifteen, Missoni picked up the guitar and started developing her songwriting. When she relocated to Shreveport, LA, she started playing local coffee shops, venues and some of the local festivals. In 2006, Missoni was selected as a featured artist at the 'Chick Singer-Songwriter Showcase' at the Bitter End in New York.

She relocated to Southern California in 2011, and began traveling across the United States and to Europe singing jazz.  She has always had a deep respect for musicians and the conversation of music.  Now that she has found her home in Seattle, Missoni has made the decision to dig into the roots and history of jazz to grow musically as a songwriter, vocalist and artist.

Missoni performed at The Ojai Jazz Festival as the opening act for Tom Scott, Brian Nova and Roger Kellaway.  She has played The Triple Door in Seattle with jazz artist, Brian Nova, and has performed in Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Dubrovnik, Venice, Montenegro, Sicily, Germany, Cuba and Hawaii.  She has opened for artists such as Nicole Atkins, Dylan Leblanc, Erin Bode, Marc Broussard, Angie Mattson (In The Valley Below), Rob Wasserman (the Grateful Dead) and more.
