MArch 11th: Sol Afrique
About Sol Afrique:
Guillaume was born and raised in Cameroon. His passion for the guitar goes back to his toddler years when he first heard one of uncle playing on a self-made guitar in a small Cameroonian village. He got his first real guitar lessons at age 13 from a gifted classmate in the dorms of “College Libermann” – the prestigious Jesuit secondary school in Douala. He furthered his musical education and guitar mastery with help from his tremendously talented older cousin Eugene Epee.
The Seattle artistic scene has been a real blessing for Guillaume’s music and the idea of recording his first album grew out of a successful summer tour in 2004 - to BC in Canada, through Lake Chelan WA, then Portland OR and back to Seattle - as a guest guitarist with the band Maya Soleil. The defining melody for the tune "Bc Ferry" was actually born on a Ferry ride during the tour. He is now a regular with his own band Sol Afrique of the Sunday African music series at Hidmo Eritrean restaurant in Seattle. His debut album is available here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/gsmpacko

“Sol Afrique’s music is rooted in African beats and melodies. It is also Jazzy, Latin with distinctive touches of R & B, Funk and Brazilian moods. The band plays both original material and well known hits - to make you dance, jump and scream.”

From our Press Release:
The goal of this weekly is to foster a sense of community in the World music scene here in Seattle and to offer a weekly gathering place for those involved in or fans of World music in the region. We believe that Seattle has a thriving World community and are excited to bring the Musicquarium into the fold. The Triple Door itself has long-since been an avid supporter of African music, culminating in King Sunny (& his African Beats) joining with KEXP last June to deliver the very first live-radio broadcast from our stage, a smashing success.
Often AFROCENTRIC will partner up with appropriate Triple Door main stage acts to offer a pre and post lounge component to the evening. The first such event will take place on Tuesday, March 16th with Bassekou Kouyate in conjunction with his, and the very first, release on Sub Pop’s new imprint “Next Ambiance,” a world-focused label that takes its name as a transmutation of Jon Kertzer’s pioneering show on KEXP, “Best Ambiance.” On that night, the lounge will feature Kane Mathis & the Sahal Band + Selectas to be announced. More info about the artist and the new label can be found here:

In May, AFROCENTRIC will team up with the return of King Sunny Ade & His African Beats to the Triple Door on Monday and Tuesday, the 3rd and 4th of the month.
