125 w/ Jeff Mcilwain AKA Lusine (ghostly) and Snap (Snap/Krakle/Pop)

Genre: Electronica

Jeff McIlwain A.K.A Lusine is without a doubt one of the most important and recognized electronic producers living and working in Seattle.  Originally from Texas, Jeff was trained in modern electronic music at CalArts before relocating to Seattle.  His initial seminal releases on Hymen were sonic statements of the future, carving out a new niche in an oversaturated and sometimes tired electronic landscape.  Jeff has played at many of the clubs and festivals that furnish the contours of the international dance scene: DMF, Mutek, Fabric London...and is just returning from a June tour with Ghostly that took him to Barcellona, Moscow and Berlin.  Jeff is a returing fav, having played the Decibel gala earlier this spring and at last year's Decibel ambient showcase in the theater.  This will be his debut in the intimacy of our lounge and will be dropping a very special Dj set from 10-12.

Don't miss the opportunity to catch one of the true stars of the Seattle electronic scene.

Support from Snap (Snap/Krakle/Pop & Matterform NYC)

125: An eve of Mid/Down-Tempo with the regions top talent

Genre: Electronica

  1. Wednesday, March 24 9:00 PM (21+)

125 (fourth Wed/mo.) is built on the premise that mid-tempo electronic music leads a vagabond existence in Seattle, without a shelter to call home. Thus, 125 is committed to furnishing a permanent nest to sophisticated electronic textures that you won't find at regular local club events. The west coast is fertile ground for slower electronic music, with Seattle being the home for many internationally recognized mid-tempo producers, and still we have yet to see consistent events showcasing these sounds.

This edition features the tireless purveyors of deep house goodness, Ramiro and Deepvibez of the local promotional outfit Uniting Souls. Both of these Djs continue to bring the heat when they play and as promoters they throw some of the best and most exciting electronic events in Seattle, with the likes of Mark Farina and other house legends.

Come down as we welcome Uniting Souls down for their debut in the Triple Door Lounge...Seattle's best mid-tempo night rolls on with another excellent night of sophisticated and deep cuts.

Get on down for the best in under 125 BPM electronic music!

Absolut Funk Night: Trio Subtonic

Genre: Funk , Jazz

Rooted in the jazz tradition, immersed in Brazilian beats, Portland-based Trio Subtonic reaches across genres, sporting a fresh array of compositions and controlled improvisations. Comprised of keyboards, upright bass, and drums, they could be described with words like funk, hip hop, latin, and contemporary classical, MMW comparisons aside.

Trio Subtonic makes music to get stuck in, to chew on, and yes, to groove. Simultaneously uplifting and weighted, collapsing and expansive, pensive and propulsive, they reach across genre lines with melody and meter to toss them in a fresh array of controlled improvisations. Dormant sounds and lush subterranean landscapes unfold; the party begins, and the infectious grooves take root.

This Portland based trio evolved from long-time collaboration between keyboardist/composer, Galen Clark and drummer/percussionist, Jesse Brooke. After spending the winter of 2005 in Brazil traveling and studying, Jesse and Galen returned to Portland and formed Trio Subtonic; with the addition of bassist Bill Athens they unearthed their inherent sound. The resulting sound infuses jazz with Brazilian rhythms, hip hop, funk and odd-time signatures, with a proclivity to groove.

Adam Hunter

Genre: Jazz , Latin Jazz

Adam has a unique American-Brazilian jazz style all his own. His music career began in high school when Adam rocked out to Hendrix, Cream and Zeppelin in friends' basements. Those gigs came as close as he ventured down a different path without a bass in hand. To Brazil. There he fell in love with traveling and soaked up the beauty. When Adam returned stateside a year and a half later, he picked up right where he left off.

Currently, Adam finds himself playing with truly talented musicians and has just finished his new album, Sonic Breeze.

About Jigsy:

Dj Jigsy AKA Abraham Ann is a founding member of the Krazy Hype Sound System. His devotion to a diverse range of music is firmly rooted in his foundation-building experiences of listening to his older brother's music selections growing up in Gambia. Jigsy considers himself extremely fortunate to have been exposed to music from all cultures at such a young age. Taking that inspiration, he quickly became a popular Dj at Radio 1 FM at only 18 years of age.

From our Press Release:

The goal of this weekly is to foster a sense of community in the World music scene here in Seattle and to offer a weekly gathering place for those involved in or fans of World music in the region.  We believe that Seattle has a thriving World community and are excited to bring the Musicquarium into the fold.  The Triple Door itself has long-since been an avid supporter of African music, culminating in King Sunny (& his African Beats) joining with KEXP last June to deliver the very first live-radio broadcast from our stage, a smashing success.

Often AFROCENTRIC will partner up with appropriate Triple Door main stage acts to offer a pre and post lounge component to the evening. The first such event will take place on Tuesday, March 16th with Bassekou Kouyate in conjunction with his, and the very first, release on Sub Pop’s new imprint “Next Ambiance,” a world-focused label that takes its name as a transmutation of Jon Kertzer’s pioneering show on KEXP, “Best Ambiance.” On that night, the lounge will feature Kane Mathis & the Sahal Band + Selectas to be announced. More info about the artist and the new label can be found here:

In May, AFROCENTRIC will team up with the return of King Sunny Ade & His African Beats to the Triple Door on Monday and Tuesday, the 3rd and 4th of the month.

MArch 11th: Sol Afrique

About Sol Afrique:

Guillaume was born and raised in Cameroon. His passion for the guitar goes back to his toddler years when he first heard one of uncle playing on a self-made guitar in a small Cameroonian village. He got his first real guitar lessons at age 13 from a gifted classmate in the dorms of “College Libermann” – the prestigious Jesuit secondary school in Douala. He furthered his musical education and guitar mastery with help from his tremendously talented older cousin Eugene Epee.

The Seattle artistic scene has been a real blessing for Guillaume’s music and the idea of recording his first album grew out of a successful summer tour in 2004 - to BC in Canada, through Lake Chelan WA, then Portland OR and back to Seattle - as a guest guitarist with the band Maya Soleil. The defining melody for the tune "Bc Ferry" was actually born on a Ferry ride during the tour. He is now a regular with his own band Sol Afrique of the Sunday African music series at Hidmo Eritrean restaurant in Seattle. His debut album is available here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/gsmpacko

For more info: http://www.myspace.com/guibarysolo

“Sol Afrique’s music is rooted in African beats and melodies. It is also Jazzy, Latin with distinctive touches of R & B, Funk and Brazilian moods. The band plays both original material and well known hits -  to make you dance, jump and scream.”

Band composition (for this event):

Makini Magee (Vocals), Phyllis Talley (Vocals), Bob Antolin (Flute, Sax), Lennox Holness (Bass), Steve Rice (Piano, Keyboards), Yaw Amponsah (African Hand Drums, Percussion), Greg Campbell (Drums), Batholomew Komoah (African Shakers, Bells, Other Percussion), Guillaume Mpacko (Guitar, Vocals).
